This resource is an essay from the US Department of State talking about movements in the west and economic growth due to the series of inventions that were developed during that time period. Transportation such as railroads and steamboats helped territory development The main idea of this essay was to establish the developments and improvements in America during the Manifest Destiny. It gives a good connotation towards the 19th century. He lays down a set of rules, starting with keeping the wife equal to the husband. He says that men should not interfere in the wives' duty of domestic concern and that he must supply her with money for the purpose of feeding them and to purchase suitable clothes for herself. He says men should not lose their temper towards their wives, that they should consult with them of issues, and that the man should share his feelings and condition with his wife. He also goes on to explain a set of guidelines for the wife. Mostly stating that the wife's goal should be pleasing the husband and that she should never attempt to rule her husband or interfere with his business. The significance of this document is that it outlines how unfair women's situations were. This author is being quite outspoken for the time, even if what he's saying is still injudicious.
